BowTie Access
SAIL Fusion is aligned with the spine surgeon community that believes
SI joint arthrodesis should only be conducted by those explicitly trained
in spinal biomechanics and spinal surgical interventions. A position
statement jointly published by most major spine societies asserts
that pain management physicians should not perform SI fusions:
“Optimal patient care and patient safety are best served when surgical
diseases affecting the spine are managed by neurosurgeons and
orthopaedic spinal surgeons trained in the full spectrum of spinal
biomechanics, including instrumentation and fusion techniques.
Therefore, arthrodesis or any other intervention that alters the
biomechanics of the spine should not be performed by practitioners
in other fields outside of specialty-trained neurosurgery or orthopaedic
spinal surgeons.”*
Therefore, in the best interest of patient care, SAIL Fusion is uniquely doing its
part by offering BowTie exclusively to orthopedic and neuro spine
and keeping it in the hands of those best suited to implant it.
